1735 Deed-Ebenezer Pingley-Elizabethtown, NJ-Robert Ogden-Craine-Williams-Halsey

Description

1735 deed for property surveyed for Ebenezer Pingley of Elizabethtown, NJ. Signatures on the item are of early residents Robert Ogden, Jeremiah Craine, Joseph Williams, Caleb Jefferson and Joseph Halsey (the last four were a committee which signed in 1749 when the deed was entered in the "Town Book"). Robert Ogden (1716-1787) was town clerk at the time, but went on to become one it's most famous (infamous?) citizens. Among many local offices he held he was also a member of the Assembly of New Jersey, later to be elected speaker. He was one of three men sent to the Stamp Act Congress in New York in 1765. This Congress decided upon fourteen resolutions, which they sent to the King. Ogden and Timothy Ruggles of Massachusetts would not sign because they felt the petition should first be sent to the individual colonies to be approved. This was misconstrued by many in New Jersey as a rejection of the resolutions and he was largely condemned (including being burned in effigy). Ogden then resigned the Assembly and returned to local offices. (8.1" x 5.1" max vertical)
The text of the piece reads as follows (with a few minor punctuation and spelling corrections): "Surveyed for Ebenezar Pingley a parcel of land at F. Blue Hills beginning eighteen chains North West from a spruce tree standing on F. side of Sandy Broock beginning at stake standing in F. line run for John (name indecipherable) from thence North West 31 chains and half of chain to the foot of F. Mountain to a stake and from thence North East 19 chain thence South East 31 chain and half of chain to a stake and from thence to F. place where it begun. Containing in all 59 acres of land and three quarters of an acre performed this 22 day of April 1735 by me (name indecipherable). The above survey entered on Elizabeth Town book page 129 thirty of March 1749-50 Robt. Ogden T(own) Clerk"
Reverse: "The within survey is allowed by us whose hands are herein subscribed. Being a committee chosen by the associates and freeholders for that service."
Please examine pictures closely for condition. Creased where previously folded with additional creases, separations at the edges of the folds (3/4" middle bottom, 5/8" left bottom, 3/8" middle top, balance are <3/16"), uneven at all edges (ragged to different extents on three edges), stains on both sides, pencil marks on the reverse (not affecting text).
