Description
Antique 1770s Georgian Irish Dublin Sterling Silver Stag Crest Pierced Card TrayPresented is an antique, late 18th century, Irish sterling silver card tray. This piece was made by John Laughlin Jr during the 1770s or possibly the early 1780s. The edge is beautifully pierced and the rim is finely hand engraved with lovely festoons or garlands of flowers. The center has a great crest of a wide-eyed stag. The stag's face has a great expression and the crest itself is nicely detailed. The platter is raised on 4 acanthus claw/paw feet with leaf or shell accents.
The underside bears the Hibernia mark for Dublin, a maker's mark for John Laughlin Jr and the harp symbol for sterling silver used between 1731 and 1786.
This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age and the engravings are crisp. There is some minor surface wear and a couple of pinpoint dings, but really great condition for a tray that is approximately 250 years old.
Dimensions: 9 3/4 by 7 by 1 1/4 inches.
Weight: 333 grams.
