Description
Presented is a handsome antique sterling silver salver tray made by Shreve, Brown & Company of Boston. This firm was a predecessor to Shreve, Crump & Low and was active under this name from 1857 to 1860. This trade is approximately 150 years old. The tray is raised up on three legs and has an elegant gadrooned rim. The center of the tray is engraved with a large shield shaped cartouche framing the presentation, ‘Sarah B. Hunt’. The shield is surrounded with elaborately engraved flowers, scrolls, and leaves.The tray is marked on the underside with Shreve, Brown & Co. for the maker, Boston, and 925 Sterling.
The condition is excellent. There are a couple of very minor dents at the edge of the tray, but they do not photo very well. There are no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The tray measures 8 inches in diameter and stands 7/8 inch tall.
The weight is 295.2 grams or 10.3 ounces.
