CONDITION ***There are some minor pin size “dents” about 8 - from use. I have tried to photograph them in the last picture. Hard to do with silver. It does not detract from the beauty or interfere with the use of this antique piece.Some minor wear and needs a good polish.
This English antique round footed tray is rendered in sterling silver and dates back to the Victorian period. It features an engraved decoration, with hallmarks including G.I. and lion passant.
John and Charles Turner were jewellers and goldsmiths with premises in New Bond Street. After the death of John and the retirement of Charles in 1835, the business was continued by John Turner junior and Thomas Binns Turner, son of Charles. In 1841 they were listed as goldsmiths to the Queen. By c.1850 the firm was restyled John Turner, otherwise Turner's remaining at the same address until c.1870. Trade card in Banks Collection (D,2.1778) advertises "John & Charles Turner, Goldsmiths And Jewellers, No.59, New Bond Street, London.
