Huge Gorham Sterling Silver Chantilly Grand 594 A594 25" Waiter or Tea Set Tray
Presented is a fabulous Gorham sterling silver large size tray, dated 1947. The
tray is made in the Chantilly Grand pattern, a variant of Gorham's popular
Chantilly pattern which features classic floral and scrollwork decoration. This
tray is a very large size, suitable for use with probably even a 6 or 7 piece
tea set, though I believe it was originally sold by Gorham as a waiter tray.
However you choose to use this piece, it's quite an impressive piece of silver
by a renowned maker and in a very desirable pattern. In our research the tray
seems to be rather rare and hard to find for sale, only available in a very
limited quantity from the Replacements website for 00. We are pleased to
offer this exceptional piece for a much more pleasant price.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There is some minor surface
wear on the main flat surface of the tray, but no deep scratches, it could
likely be polished to a mirror finish. There are no splits, no dents, no
monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The tray is stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Gorham as well
as sterling, the product number 594 for the tray, the size (25 inches) and the
date mark for 1947.
The tray measures about 29 3/8 x 18 inches (including the handles, or about
25 by 18 without) and is about 2 1/4 inches tall at the highest point of the
handles. The useable surface area is about 19 1/2 x 13 1/4 inches.
The tray weighs 3848 grams or 135.7 regular ounces.
