Chrysanthemum sterling silver serving dish. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Ovalish well, curved sides with lobing and applied leaf border, and scalloped rim with the famous chrysanthemum flower heads alternating with leaves. A profusion of blossoms bunched at ends and wrapped around bracket handles. Reeded oval foot ring with chased leaves. Well has engraved interlaced script monogram with French motto "Si Dieu Veult" (that is, "God willing").
A gorgeous early piece in the in the celebrated pattern, a New World interpretation of a Japanese motif, that was first produced in 1880.
Fully marked including pattern no. 5931 (first produced in 1880) and director?s letter M (1873-91).
